Gannon University’s MakerSpace is proud to unveil its new and very meaningful project—the official ceremonial mace for the university’s Centennial Commencement. This custom-built mace will now be featured at all future commencement ceremonies, becoming a lasting symbol of Gannon tradition and pride.

The project was led by the MakerSpace team with great care, creativity, and attention to detail. The brass in the mace was formed using sacred relics from Gannon’s Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel. The detailed inlays and the Celtic cross are exact replicas from Archbishop Gannon’s original chalice. The pommel includes both Florida mahogany and maple sourced from Erie, representing the connection between Gannon’s Ruskin, Florida campus and its main campus in Erie, Pennsylvania.

This project is a powerful example of what can be achieved when students, faculty, and staff work together through innovation and craftsmanship. The mace stands as a symbol not only of Gannon’s history but of the creative potential within the Gannon's MakerSpace. We are honored that our work will now be part of a major university tradition and carried proudly by Professor Mahesh Aggarwal, Faculty Senate President, at every commencement.
