Updated: Feb 19

Gannon University's MakerSpace recently partnered with UPMC to offer a "Stop the Bleed" class. This training provided MakerSpace workstudy technicians with hands-on experience in essential first-aid skills to manage bleeding injuries, ensuring safety during the crafting activities.

Participants learned how to apply direct pressure, pack wounds, and use tourniquets—skills necessary for controlling bleeding in emergencies. By learning these techniques, students

gained the knowledge to react quickly and effectively whether in the Makerspace or beyond. “Stop the Bleed” class highlights Gannon University’s MakerSpace commitment to safe environment where students can creatively and safely work on their projects.

Mechanical Engineering sophomore Jillian shared her experience: "The class was very informative. I got to actually practice, which was very useful. Now, I'll be a lot more prepared." Her experience reflects the value of such training and the confidence that comes with knowing how to handle an emergency.

At Gannon's MakerSpace, students are encouraged to bring their innovative ideas to life in a secure setting. By offering safety training like "Stop the Bleed," the MakerSpace ensures that each student can explore and create confidently, knowing they are equipped to handle potential emergencies
