On Saturday, January 31st, Gannon University’s MakerSpace team was excited to participate in this year’s STEM Night at Fairview Elementary School. The event brought together students, parents, and educators for an engaging evening focused on inspiring interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM Night was designed to spark curiosity, encourage hands-on learning, and show young students how classroom concepts connect to real-world innovation.

Events like this play a vital role in building early enthusiasm for STEM. By giving children opportunities to explore new technologies, ask questions, and experiment creatively, STEM Night helps develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and confidence in learning. It also strengthens the connection between schools, families, and the broader community, creating a supportive environment where young minds can thrive.

During the event, the Gannon University MakerSpace hosted an interactive table where we showcased our student-built creations and innovative projects. We demonstrated 3D-printing technology, showing how digital designs can be transformed into physical objects in real time. In addition, we highlighted our high-speed laser engraving process by creating personalized leather keychains. Students and their parents were able to watch the engraving in action and take their custom keychains home as a memorable keepsake from the night.

We were thrilled to see the excitement and curiosity from both students and parents as they explored our demonstrations. Their enthusiasm reflects the growing interest in hands-on, technology-driven learning and reinforces the importance of accessible STEM opportunities in the Erie community.

Gannon University’s MakerSpace is proud to support local schools and contribute to educational initiatives that inspire the next generation of innovators. We are grateful to Fairview Elementary School for hosting this impactful event and for welcoming us into their community.
