Meet our talented MakerSpace Technician II, Gianni — a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Software Engineering. His curiosity for technology and dedication to innovation have made him an essential part of the MakerSpace team.
Gianni has been actively involved in several major projects, including the Combat Robotics project and the Donut Putter project. His work showcases both creativity and technical skill, as he helps design and build complex systems that push the limits of what’s possible in the lab.
One of Gianni’s standout initiatives is the conversion of the MakerSpace’s old Avid CNC router into a pellet-fed large-format 3D printer. Using a Dyze Design Proton extruder, he aims to achieve an impressive build volume of approximately 1.5m x 1.5m x 1m. This project also reuses much of the router’s original electronics, reflecting Gianni’s practical approach to sustainability and resourcefulness.
The upgraded setup will run on Kippler firmware and include integrated cameras for debugging and remote operation. Gianni’s innovative mindset continues to expand the MakerSpace’s advanced manufacturing capabilities, opening new opportunities for large-scale 3D printing and experimental fabrication.
