The Gannon MakerSpace hosted its inaugural Combat Robotics 2026 competition on May 1st, bringing together talented student teams for an exciting night of engineering and innovation. This event marked another step forward in building a strong engineering culture within the MakerSpace and the broader Erie community.

The competition featured a range of carefully designed robots across different weight classes. Representing Gannon, the GUDevBot team introduced their Beetleweight robots Jack Hammer and Hell House, along with Antweight entries Spinning Night and RAMpage. Penn State Behrend entered the arena with their Beetleweight robot Tax Evasion Crustacean and their Antweight robot Misdemeanor. Each machine reflected countless hours of design, testing, and iteration, combining strategic engineering with bold and creative concepts.

Throughout the event, participants and spectators experienced the excitement of live combat robotics while also gaining insight into the engineering process behind each build. From custom fabricated components to advanced design approaches, the competition showcased how hands-on learning can turn ideas into fully functional machines.

More than just a competition, the event demonstrated the growing impact of the MakerSpace as a hub for collaboration and innovation within the Erie community. By bringing together teams from different institutions, the MakerSpace continues to create opportunities for students to challenge themselves, exchange ideas, and push the boundaries of what they can build.

The MakerSpace looks forward to continuing this momentum by hosting future events that inspire creativity, strengthen connections, and expand access to hands-on engineering experiences across the region.
