On Friday, March 21st, Gannon University students had the exciting opportunity to get creative at a DIY Keychains Workshop held in the MakerSpace. The event provided participants with hands-on learning experiences and the chance to personalize their own designs into physical objects. Students designed and crafted their own custom wood keychains, using MakerSpace’s advanced laser cutting equipment. With guidance from staff, participants turned simple pieces of wood into unique and customized keychains.

During the DIY workshop, students explored the process of laser cutting and learned how to transform digital designs into real objects. They used computers to create their keychain designs, and then the laser cutter etched and cut the shapes out of wood with precision. Whether it was a name, a favorite symbol, or an artistic design, each keychain was special. The workshop allowed students to not only express their creativity but also gain practical skills in digital design and fabrication.

The event was a fun and relaxed way for students to try something new and connect with others. By the end of the workshop, everyone left with a personalized keychain and a sense of accomplishment. At the MakerSpace, we always create new opportunities for students to learn, create, and innovate, and this DIY Workshop was just one example of how the space is helping students bring their ideas to life.
